Seisyu | Founder of Color Brush Art
Seisyu began his journey with the brush at the age of five. For over half a century, he has dedicated himself to the path of traditional Japanese calligraphy. His mastery is evidenced by numerous awards and selections at Japan’s most prestigious exhibitions, including the Mainichi and Sogen Calligraphy Exhibitions. He has deeply explored classical styles from standard script to ancient seal scripts and stone drum inscriptions.
[Conflict and Transformation]
After years of competing within the monochrome constraints of modern calligraphy, Seisyu felt his spirit yearning for a broader spectrum of expression. Despite the lack of understanding from traditionalists and the difficulty of fitting into conventional judging categories, he continued to push his physical and creative limits. This period of isolation and intense passion eventually gave birth to his original style: “Color Brush Art.”
[Innovative Expression: Color Brush Art]
Color Brush Art reinterprets characters (Kanji) as three-dimensional “narratives” by fusing classical brushwork with vibrant acrylics and gold outlining. Even after passing the age of 60, Seisyu continues to innovate by integrating textured Washi paper and cutting-edge AI technology (Midjourney).
Each stroke is a prayer, liberating the ancient spirit of characters into contemporary spaces through color and life.

Color Brush Art
Seisyu Kamata is a unique color calligraphy artist born in Osaka, Japan. Having been immersed in the world of calligraphy since the age of five, she believes that the practice holds a profound healing effect on the human spirit.
Drawing on this philosophy, Seisyu creates her signature style of color calligraphy on Washi paper, trademarked as 「Color」” Brush Art®.”
Her work dynamically expresses the powerful imagery evoked by the meanings of Kanji characters, translating deep concepts into a vibrant fusion of color and diverse artistic forms.

While pursuing her professional career, she never neglected her rigorous commitment to calligraphy research.
During this dedicated study, she gradually began to explore the fusion of color into her practice. She ultimately discovered a vibrant form of expression where colors stand out dramatically, utilizing the sharp contrast between brilliant hues and the purity of the white paper.
The root of my creative work lies in the exploration of rhythm and linear depth inherent in various script styles and techniques, which I discovered while devotedly copying Chinese classical masterpieces, particularly the rubbings of ancient stone monuments.
Through the use of color calligraphy, this practice has become a moment of healing and inner dialogue with my own spirit.
