Kamata Seisyu created a new form of expression called
｢Color｣ Brush Artⓐ based on her deep experiences gained
through her calligraphy training.
As she became absorbed in calligraphy,
she strongly desired to create works
that go beyond a mere string of characters,
but that would heal and inspire the viewer.
To give form to this desire, she tried an approach different
from traditional calligraphy.
First, she limited the paper she used to her work to
white Japanese paper, and by using a tone similar
to the color of the characters, she pursued a three-dimensional
effect that made the characters appear to emerge from the paper. In addition, by edging the outlines of the characters with glitter, she was able to reflect light and achieve an even more three-dimensional expression.
By fusing the warmth of the Japanese paper with the brilliance of the glitter, Kamata’s ｢Color｣ Brush Art established a unique worldview
that is different from traditional calligraphy. By combining the traditional form of expression called calligraphy with modern sensibilities and materials, she opened the door to a completely new art form.

The Art of Seisyu Kamata
Merging the Silence of Calligraphy with the Vibrancy of Color
Starting calligraphy at age five, I was deeply captivated by the serenity and state of emptiness experienced while copying models, leading me to master the art. Specializing in contemporary calligraphy, I achieved master certifications in Kanji, Modern Poetic Calligraphy, Kana, and Penmanship, earning awards and selections in prestigious exhibitions like the Mainichi Exhibition and Sogen Exhibition.
While building a career at banks and major corporations, I continuously pursued calligraphy research, gradually exploring the integration of color. Beginning Color Calligraphy in 2010, rooted in calligraphic fundamentals, I discovered how vibrant colors emerge against white paper.
The essence of my creation stems from my fascination with Chinese classical works, especially rubbings of stone monuments, where I sought the inherent rhythm and depth of lines within various scripts. For me, infusing calligraphy with color became a moment of healing, allowing introspection.
I firmly believe this Color Brush Art fosters self-dialogue and cultivates self-affirmation. Convinced that Color Calligraphy will evolve into a new cultural form, I have dedicated my life to this art.
